Living and Learning Together - Shining in our Faith
The Live Simply award is an invitation to follow in the footsteps of Jesus who lived and preached a simple life.
It is a journey where we as a school can take meaningful action on local, global and school targets.
The Live Simply award will:
• support the Catholic life and mission of our school
• build and enrich relationships with our parents, parishioners, and the wider community
• contribute to creating a more just and fairer world
Our pupils will:
• learn to make connections between their faith and some social and environmental crises
• respond with faith-inspired actions, applying the CST principles (Catholic Social Teaching Principles - such as dignity, solidarity and peace)
• be empowered as active global citizens to bring about positive change
OUR ACTIONS:
Global Action 1 - Living in Solidarity
As a school we will take place in the CAFOD Big Lent Walk to raise awareness of CAFOD's work in supporting our global family
Global Action 2 - Living in Solidarity
We will learn about global injustice around the world. Then, we will take part in the Big Green Week and learn about ways to help our environment through the ways we reduce, reuse and recycle.
Global Action 3 - Living Simply
We will take part in World Day of the Poor. We will talk about the world's poorest communities and write prayers to remind us to think of others who are not as lucky as we are.
LOCAL ACTIONS
Local Action 1 - Living Simply
Pupils will host school events and invite members of our parish and local community to these to foster a relationship between the school and the local area.
Local Action 2 - Living Simply
The children will take an active part in our parish Harvest Festival celebration. They will gather food donations for the local food bank, create prayers and a display for the church and take an active part in the celebration Mass.
Local Action 3 - Living in Solidarity
Wrap up UK: the children will support this charity by donating any unwanted coats and deliver them to the local collection point. They will learn about people who are less fortunate than themselves and understand how our donations can help these people.
SCHOOL ACTIONS
School Action 1 - Living Simply
Celebrating Gods creations: the children will learn about God's wonderful world on Earth Day and use this day to create artwork or photographs to celebrate the awe and wonder of all of God's creations
School Action 2 - Living Sustainably
We will use different initiatives to develop a culture of buy less, share more. We will hold a pre-loved book shop on World Book Day, We will donate Christmas jumpers for a swap shop and encourage the use of our pre-loved uniform shop.
School Action 3 - Living Sustainably
The children will work on different activities throughout the year to support the wonderful school environment and the wildlife that lives within it. We will create bird feeders, make bug hotels, work together to keep our grounds litter free and create new wild flower beds to name just a few.
