Celebrating Number Day 2024

The children across the school have embraced and enjoyed our Number Day 2024 celebrations. All of our classes have enjoyed mathematics opportunities and activities throughout the day.

Mathematics at St Mary's Catholic Primary School

At St Mary's Catholic Primary School we aim to develop all pupil's mathematical skills, knowledge and understanding of concept in order to prepare them for using their mathematical skills, with fluency, in everyday life. We strive to make mathematics enjoyable and relevant to the children, placing emphasis on applying skills and concepts to problem solving activities, encouraging independent thinkers.

In addition to daily mathematics lessons in all classes, the children in Key Stage 2 complete daily times tables challenges, to promote fluency and understanding of times tables.

Every week the staff award a 'Mathematician of the Week' trophy to a child who has shown excellent mathematics work throughout the week. The winners are celebrated in our weekly Celebration assembly and names published in the weekly newsletter.
