German at St. Mary's Primary School

Modern Foreign Languages are delivered in KS2 at St Mary's. Children enjoy a weekly lesson using the "Time for German" scheme of work. During the Autumn term, all pupils receive an eight week programme of teaching from a specialist MFL Teacher from St. Bede's Catholic High School.

Children have the opportunity to use their MFL skills across the curriculum; through music (singing with german lyrics) and Literacy (studying literature written in another language).

Lessons are taught to take advantage of the phonics skills that pupils possess, with multiple examples of call - repeat in every session. This is then built upon and reinforced with carefully modelled transcription activities.

St. Mary's pupils find German; engaging, accessible and genuinely great fun. We intend that it encourages the learning of languages into KS3 and beyond.
