PSHE at St. Mary's

At St. Mary's we have designed a curriculum with appropriate subject knowledge, skills and understanding to fulfil the duties of the National Curriculum whereby schools must provide a ‘balanced and broadly-based curriculum which promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils and prepares them for the opportunities and responsibilities and experiences for later life’.

This has been done in partnership with the PSHE Association. The thematic scheme of work was implemented from September 2022 and has been refined to meet the needs of St. Mary's children and families. This incorporates RSE teaching endorsed by The Archdiocese of Liverpool (A Journey in Love). The school actively promotes British Values and takes advantage of specific opportunities to foster these; Holocaust Memorial Day, Martin Luther-King Day and International Women's Day are but a few examples.

Following consultation with parents and carers additional units were added into the KS2 curriculum for 2023;

  • Knife Crime Awareness (The Ben Kinsella Trust)
  • Local Water Safety (The Canal and River Trust)
  • Speak Out Stay Safe (NSPCC)

Please contact school if you require any further information regarding the PSHE curriculum and it's content.
