Welcome to Year 5 and 6!
Hello and welcome to Year 5 and 6
We look forward to sharing our learning on our class page!
We are excited to show you the wonderful things that we are doing in class.
Our class teacher is Mrs Sykes. This term, Mrs Wareing and Mrs Geldart will be helping us in class. On Friday afternoons, Mr Unwin (a specialist PE teacher) teaches us PE.
Important information about Year 5 and 6
The day begins at 8.55 and ends at 3.20.
Children do not need to bring in pencil cases as all equipment is provided.
At morning break you can bring in a healthy snack or fruit to eat. We are a nut free school, so please do not bring any food items into school which contain nuts or traces of nuts.
Please bring a named water bottle into school. This needs to be taken home daily to be washed thoroughly.
Lunchtime is at 12.30 and the children have one hour for lunch.
Within Year 5 and 6, the children have many roles and responsibilities. The children can apply for a range of monitor roles in school. These roles include PE, library, assembly, classroom, ICT and register monitors.
At the beginning of the Autumn term, each class will vote for a school council representative who will represent the class within the school council meetings.
Autumn Term (1)
As we settle into the first half of the Autumn term, we will be covering the following;
Within English, we will be focusing on a book called, ‘ The 1,000 Year Old Boy’.
The children will explore key themes and characters and complete a range of writing and reading activities linked to this text.
Within RE, we are focusing on Family and our local community.
Within Science, we will be focusing on Living Things and their Habitats.
Within Geography we will be learning about Mountains.
Please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Sykes if you have any questions that you would like to ask such as the concepts or methods taught within maths or if you wish to support your child further at home.
Each week, the children will receive spellings to learn. The children are then tested on these spellings the following Thursday. The children will also be given reading and maths homework on a weekly basis.
The children are expected to read on a daily basis and a record of this should be recorded within their reading record. All Year 5 and 6 children are issued with a homework diary at the beginning of the academic year.
As we progress through this term, additional resources and links will be added to help support the children’s learning.
Please keep an eye on our class page for updates and snapshots of learning.
