Living and Learning Together - Shining in our Faith

Year 5&6

Welcome to Year 5 and 6!

Hello and welcome to Year 5 and 6! We are the greatest class ever!

We look forward to sharing our learning on our class page! We are excited to show you the wonderful things that we are doing in class.

Our class teacher is Mrs Sykes. This term, Mr Scotland and Mrs Wareing will be helping us in class. On Friday afternoons, Mr Unwin (a specialist PE teacher) teaches us PE.

Important information about Year 5 and 6

The day begins at 8.55 and ends at 3.20.

Children do not need to bring in pencil cases as all equipment is provided.

At morning break you can bring in a healthy snack or fruit to eat. We are a nut free school, so please do not bring any food items into school which contain nuts or traces of nuts.

Please bring a named water bottle into school. This needs to be taken home daily to be washed thoroughly.

Lunchtime is at 12.30 and the children have one hour for lunch.

Within Year 5 and 6, the children have many roles and responsibilities. The children can apply for a range of monitor roles in school. These roles include PE, library, assembly, classroom, ICT and register monitors.

At the beginning of the Autumn term, each class voted for a school council representative who represents the class within the school council meetings

Summer Term

As we settle into the second half of the summer term we will be covering the following;

Within English, we will focus on letters, diaries and play scripts

Within RE, we will cover Hinduism and our world

Within geography, we will focus on rivers

Within science, we will focus on forces

Please do not hesitate to contact Mrs Sykes if you have any questions that you would like to ask such as the concepts or methods taught within maths or if you wish to support your child further at home

Homework

Each week, the children will receive spellings to learn. The children are then tested on these spellings the following Thursday. The children will also be given reading and maths homework on a weekly basis.

The children are expected to read on a daily basis and a record of this should be recorded within their reading record. All Year 5 and 6 children are issued with a homework diary at the beginning of the academic year.

As we progress through this term, additional resources and links will be added to help support the children’s learning.

Please keep an eye on our class page for updates and snapshots of learning. Through exploring our web page, you can keep up-to-date with our learning journey, check out our curriculum and explore subject specific websites which can support your children’s learning.
