Living and Learning Together - Shining in our Faith

Year 1&2

Welcome to year 1 and 2

We have had a fantastic start to our Autumn term and we are all excited to be back to school, ready to learn. The children are working hard and have had lots of fun settling into the new routines in our class.

The teaching team in Year 1 and 2 includes Mrs McGrath who is our class teacher and she is supported by Mrs Hyland, our Teaching Assistant and Mrs Duff who provides one to one support within the classroom.  This term we are also joined in class by our SCITT Associate Teacher Miss Stanton.

In Year 1 and 2 we provide the children with focussed teaching and continuous provision, these activities are enhanced to support the Year 1 and 2 Curriculum and provide the children with challenges.

Our challenge areas are updated and changed regularly, daily or weekly depending on our focuses. Resources and equipment are cleaned regularly.

General Notices for Year 1 and 2

Reading folders are sent home on a Monday and collected in on a Friday. Reading at home is very important to all of Year 1 and 2 we are practising these skills regularly at home and in school.

We still have snack in Year 1 and 2, and we enjoy sharing this together.

On Fridays we need to remember to bring our PE kits into school and we also need to remember to learn our spellings for our Friday test.

Homework this half term includes reading and learning our spellings.

At home you can help your child with their mental maths skills by:

  • Working on their number bonds to 10, 20 and 100
  • Practising their times tables 2’s, 5’s and 10’s
  • Helping them to write their numbers correctly
  • Using every day activities to help support their counting skills
