Living and Learning Together - Shining in our Faith

DT

Design and Technology is an inspiring and practical subject. Design and Technology encourages children to learn to think and intervene creatively to solve problems, both as individuals and as members of a team.

At St Mary's, we aim to provide a broad and balanced Design and Technology curriculum, which is inspiring, practical, meaningful and memorable. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts. The pupils are given opportunities to develop their capabilities in order to produce accurate and detailed work. Within Design Technology, children will learn and build on a range of practical and technical skills ( see progression of skills), testing their ideas and critiquing and evaluating both their own products and the work of others. Projects are often cross-curricular and support a broad range of subject knowledge, drawing on disciplines such as mathematics, science, computing and art. Within the Design Technology curriculum, we aim to provide a range of cooking and nutrition lessons, which will allow the children to practise their cooking skills and develop their knowledge and understanding of nutrition and a healthy diet. From Nursery to Year 6, children are give the opportunity to develop, extend and consolidate their knowledge and skills in a progressive, structured framework. We want Design and Technology to prepare our children, to them the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences they will need in later life. the children revise the vocabulary used within this subject on a weekly basis. This enables them to build a rich bank of vocabulary with clear definitions and understanding.

For any additional information regarding the Design Technology curriculum please contact Mrs, Sykes( Subject Lead) or Mr. J Smith ( Subject Governor).
